Immoral Crimes that Result in Amnesty.
During Reconstruction there was a debate over whether the South should be granted amnesty for their misconduct towards African Americans. You might ask, what was their misconduct? Well, African Americans were not treated like human beings or given respect by white men simply because of the color of their skin. They were put into slavery, forced to live under restrictions, abused, killed, and then thrown away like trash. Even after all of this, in the end, the South was granted "amnesty," which means forgiveness. Their past offenses were set aside like they never even happened. That should never have happened. Since when are criminal offenses, especially those that are without a doubt immoral, forgiven without any form of punishment? This could easily have let the South think that what they did was completely okay and they definitely did not learn a lesson by getting away with it. The South should have received some form of punishment for their crimes.
