Positive Effects of War Games

http://www.flickr.com/photos/50821861@N06/5251682608/

So since the 21st century, first person shooter games, such as Call of Duty, have become very widely popular. Not only have they become popular, but they've become hated for their violent and realistic portrayals of war. People say that such games influence young adults in a negative way. The way to win, is to kill, and who doesn't want to win? Because of that, a number of people want to remove them from the market. However, I believe that war games should continue to exist for a number of reasons.

The entire video game industry makes millions and billions of dollars from creating and selling such war games. People stand in line for hours on end when a new one is released. With the way our economy is right now, why would you want to give up all that money and the number of jobs it creates?

War games can positively influence people to join the armed forces to continue to protect our rights and freedom. A friend of mine, that is now a navy black hawk helicopter pilot, told me that playing such video games built up his hand coordination, reflexes, and visual skills. Those skills transferred over into real life, enabling him to be a better pilot... True story.

Yes, video games are not exactly like the real deal. In real life, you don't get a second chance when you die. In real life, you don't always get to take a break. In real life, you have to be completely cautious. In real life, you can't just hit "pause." But that's the point. These video games aren't necessarily suppose to be exactly like real life. It's only common sense to know that you cannot play the video games and then expect to enter into war and survive, even if you beat the game on "veteran."

So if you ask me whether or not these war games should exist, I'm always going to say yes.

Is it too late?

I can't imagine not having instant communication with my family and friends. During World War I, it took two weeks for a soldier to receive a letter from a loved one and another two weeks for the soldier's loved one to receive his letter. In that time span, anything could happen on either side of the spectrum. Soldiers and loved ones lived in constant fear, always asking "what if?" I would hate not knowing what was going on with my family and I would be crushed to find out, at a later time, that something horrible happened to them. We definitely have an advantage nowadays with the technology that's available.

Dog fightin'

I'll admit, I wasn't very good at that game at all. I was too worried about getting shot at and crashing, that I ended up crashing anyways because I ended up hitting the ground. A pilot during World War I had to focus on the same exact concepts. Not getting shot at and not crashing. Not only that, but they had to work simultaneously with their gunner. If the pilot and gunner didn't work simultaneously, they were pretty much done for because there was always the chance of the gunner shooting down their own plane with the machine gun. I definitely think that being in a dogfight would have such an incredible adrenaline rush and I'm sure the pilots and gunners were scared for their lives. I know I would be. Like any kind of war, air-to-air combat is such an unpredictable event that anything could happen. On the bright side, if you survived, you achieved an outstanding accomplishment and you were able to live another day.

U.S. Marshals!

 http://www.flickr.com/photos/53241552@N06/5018650363/

The movie, U.S. Marshals, incorporates imperialism in its 131 minute time span. Here's how...

A black man, by the name of Mark Roberts, is arrested after a traffic accident, enabling police to determine he is a federal fugitive. While being transported by airplane to New York, Roberts shares the flight with Deputy U.S. Marshal Samuel Gerard. A Chinese prisoner, who is traveling on the plane with them, attempts to assassinate Roberts with a concealed zip gun. However, the attempt fails and the plan crashes due to the gunshot traveling through a window and depressurizing the cabin of the plane. After all of the prisoners are accounted for, Gerard realizes that Roberts is missing and he discovers that Robert's real name is Mark Sheridan. Sheridan was an operative in a mission that turned for the worse and he was framed for murdering his fellow DSS agents. In time, DSS Agent John Royce joins Samuel Gerard's team in the search for Mark Sheridan.

There are several times where Sheridan is almost captured but he ends up getting away. Every time he gets away, the search for him continues. Every time the search continues, DSS Agent John Royce tries to frame Sheridan in some way. Unfortunately, Sheridan cannot prove that Royce is framing him.

Gerard learns that Sheridan is no mere criminal and the history behind his incrimination becomes more and more suspicious by the minute. At the same time, Sheridan is trying to figure out the truth himself, while also attempting to keep one step ahead of Samuel Gerard. Towards the very end of the movie, Gerard becomes suspicious of Royce and his real intentions. Not only that, but Gerard walks in on Royce attempting to frame Sheridan a final time. Therefore, it is then proven that Sheridan is innocent and Royce is not, which leads to Sheridan's release as a free man.

This movie incorporated imperialism because imperialism is a stronger nation/person/etc. oppressing a weaker one. John Royce tried to frame Mark Sheridan over and over again and unfortunately, Sheridan couldn't prove that he was framing him. Royce was in a higher power than Sheridan, which allowed him to hide his real intentions until the very end.

Kanjo+Panama Canal=Tough Life

July 7th, 1907.
Well, my name is Kanjo and I've decided to write in this journal every day to record my experiences working on the Panama Canal. I really don't want to be here and I'm forced to work under dangerous conditions. It's hot and I see so many people dying around me each and every day, including my best friend, from diseases, train derailments, noxious gases, land and mud slides, and explosions, which just reminds me that I could die any second, too. I have come to realize that I have a higher chance of dying than a lot of men. I'm black and I am what we call a "powder man." I carry 50lb. boxes of dynamite on my head. From the time I pick that box up to the time I set it down, ever so gently, the thought of blowing up into a million pieces runs through my mind. Well anyways, It's getting late and I have to get up in a few hours to get back to work. Hopefully I can get past the nightmares and get some shut eye tonight.

SOA; Put it to an End!

The School of the Americas, a.k.a. SOA is a combat training school for Latin American soldiers. The SOA was originally established in Panama, but in 1984 because of the Panama Canal Treaty, it was booted out. The SOA has trained over 60,000 Latin American soldiers in counterinsurgency techniques, sniper training, commando and psychological warfare, military intelligence and interrogation tactics. Due to this training, the graduates from the School of the Americas are torturing, raping, and assassinating innocent Latin American citizens. For example, on November 16th, 1989, a Salvadoran Army patrol massacred six Jesuit priests, their housekeeper, and her daughter at the University of Central America in San Salvador. A number of the members of the Salvadoran Army patrol reportedly received training at the School of the Americas. This combat training school should be shut down because if it were not shut down, more innocent people will suffer the consequences. We have enough problems of our own, here in the United States, and we should solely focus on that.
